1st BLACK HAWKs From 1999 Contract Delivered to Turkey



STRATFORD, Conn. --- The first 10 of 50 S-70 BLACK HAWK helicopters contracted this year by Turkey from Sikorsky Aircraft Corp. were accepted by the Turkish Armed Forces on June 30, 1999.
; The 10 aircraft were delivered to Turkey via freighter in June, and were reassembled and test flown by Turkish Armed Forces prior to final acceptance.
; Shipments of the remaining 40 BLACK HAWKs are scheduled to continue through 2001. The aircraft were procured through a direct purchase from Sikorsky.
; Turkey previously made three purchases of Sikorsky BLACK HAWK helicopters. In 1992, a contract was signed for the delivery of 45 aircraft to the Turkish Government. In 1988, six aircraft were delivered to the Turkish Jandarma. Sikorsky also delivered six BLACK HAWK helicopters to the Turkish National Police (TNP) in 1990. In addition, eight S-70 Turkish Navy SEAHAWK helicopters are on contract, with deliveries starting in 2000.
