Banks Help Vietnam Airlines Buy Airbuses (Sept. 16)
Four Vietnamese commercial banks have pledged to lend Vietnam Airlines US$43 million to buy another Airbus A.321.
A contract to this effect was signed in Hanoi on Tuesday between Vietnam Airlines and the Foreign Trade Bank (Vietcombank), the Vietnam Industrial and Commercial Bank, the Bank for Investment and Development and the Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development. These loans will enjoy a post-investment interest rate supported by the Vietnam Development Fund.
The sum will be used to purchase the fourth aircraft in a deal to buy five Airbus A 321 planes signed by Vietnam Airlines and the Airbus Group in October, 2002. This plane will be handed over to Vietnam Airlines next month.
The fifth plane bought with funds from the State budget will be received in early 2005.
