Alvis Upgrading Omani Scorpions (Mar.21)

In addition to the British Army CVR(T) (Combat Vehicle Reconnaissance (Tracked)) conversion programme, Alvis was recently awarded a contract from the Oman Ministry of Defence, for the dieselisation and overhaul of the Royal Army of Oman's fleet of 60 CVR(T) vehicles, to the same exacting standards as those of the British Army.

This conversion work will be undertaken by the RAO in Oman and makes Oman the first export customer for the Alvis diesel conversion. A converted CVR(T) vehicle is displayed on the Alvis stand, D7, at IDEX 2001.

As well as a major increase in reliability, the diesel conversion provides improved vehicle performance, removal of the safety hazard posed by petrol fuel, and ensures that CVR(T) can remain in effective use for many more years.

The conversion of the RAO's CVR(T) fleet will be complete in time for "Saif Sareera II", a major international joint rapid-reaction force field-training exercise, which will take place in Oman later in 2001.

As a consequence of the contract, Alvis will be joining Oman's Partnership For Development programme, committed to investing in the development of business and projects in Oman.
