ADI Limited has fast tracked its planned optronics capability following Thales' success in winning the Australian Army's Ninox TSS contract.
A new ADI optronics capability has been established as a part of ADI's C4ISR business unit which will house Thales Optronics' Australian project office for the contract. Thales, a joint owner of ADI with Transfield, is a world leader in optronics.
As well as providing management support on Ninox, ADI's new capability will target the military and paramilitary markets in Australia and New Zealand, providing through life support for in service sensors and systems.
ADI managing director, Mr Jean-Georges Malcor, said the capability emphasised ADI's plans to invest in new technologies.
"We see excellent opportunities in the thermal imaging market in Australia and regionally and we are fortunate that Ninox has brought forward our access to Thales' know how, experience and personnel," he said.
"It demonstrates how ADI can be brought into significant projects by its two owners and the benefits of having access to their world leading technologies."
Mr Malcor said the ability to provide through life support for thermal imagers and thermal imaging systems would be ADI's optronics "building block".
"We are confident that this supportability and the Thales products and services we will be marketing will see ADI develop as a leading regional optronics provider."
ADI's optronics manager will be Mr Peter Richards, who has been transferred from Thales Optronics. Mr Richards has 17 years experience with Thales Optronics.
