AAI Corp. Wins UAV Contracts (June 22)

NEW YORK---United Industrial Corporation today announced that its AAI Corporation subsidiary has been awarded unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) contracts totaling $25.4 million for an international UAV program. The award continues the significant growth of the Company's UAV business and represents a further step in its penetration of the foreign defense marketplace.

Under the contract, AAI will provide ground support equipment, including a ground control system, a ground data terminal, a launch control system, an airborne data terminal, an air vehicle recovery system and spare parts, and provide integration assistance for the customer's UAV program. The contract is scheduled to be completed in early 2003.

"We are delighted with this new program and the ongoing success of AAI's unmanned aerial vehicle business,'' said Richard R. Erkeneff, President and Chief Executive Officer of United Industrial. "Our team continues to leverage AAI's competitive strengths in the production and maintenance of UAVs to attract new business and build our franchise in this specialized segment of the defense systems market. We look forward to continuing our momentum in the quarters ahead, as we seek to take advantage of additional opportunities to drive future growth.''

Among AAI's key UAV contracts now underway is the Tactical Unmanned Aerial Vehicle program for the U.S. Army. Under this $108 million program, AAI is developing the next generation TUAV system, one of eight systems designated as critical to the Army's Transformation Modernization Program.
