PARIS---Alenia Aerospazio/Finmeccanica of Italy and Denel (Pty.) Ltd., trading as Denel Aviation of South Africa, signed today in Paris a Memorandum of Agreement covering industrial co-operation and joint activities for military transport aircraft marketing on the African continent.
The agreement was signed by Carmelo Cosentino, Alenia Aerospazio Senior Vice President, and by Max V. Sisulu, Denel Deputy Group CEO.
Alenia Aerospazio, as manufacturer of the new C-27J tactical airlifter, and Denel Group wish to investigate ways and means to co-operate in the areas of customisation, modification, integration of upgrade systems, certification, conversion, marketing and logistics support of the Alenia Aerospazio G222 aircraft and its derivatives.
The two companies also agreed to identify and similarly explore other possible projects within the business scopes of Alenia and Denel aviation, with a view to incorporate such projects within the portfolio of their strategic alliance, in order to derive mutual business benefits.
This agreement is the first step for a long-term partnership that will contribute to the consolidation of Alenia Aerospazio's presence in Africa, and represents for Denel Aviation a further achievement in the international aerospace scenario.
