Alenia Marconi Data Terminals For Bowman (July 23)



Alenia Marconi Systems (AMS) Operations Division based in Hillend, Fife are teamed with Litton Data Systems to provide up to 30,000 data terminals for the Bowman communications system, a sub-contract valued in the region of £130 million. The Bowman contract valued at £1.8 billion, was awarded yesterday to the prime contractor CDC Systems UK Ltd.

The major equipment to be built at AMS's world class manufacturing facility in Hillend are Litton's Next Generation HTU ( Hand held Terminal Unit ) and Palm size PC terminal units. The Next Generation HTU is an upgrade of Litton's HTU, currently in service with US, Canadian and British forces.

Bill Campbell, Operations Director for AMS said "We are delighted to win this major contract and have this opportunity to be involved in the Bowman communications system for the UK Armed Forces. This further strengthens AMS' world class manufacturing capabilities."

The four year production phase will create up to 100 new jobs at the AMS, Hillend site which currently employees over 300 people. This will be augmented by further employment through local sub-contractors and suppliers
