Aero Vodochody Rolls Out 8th Sikorsky S-76 (Aug 6)
The eighth helicopter Sikorsky S-76 C+ has left AERO Vodochody on Thursday 2 August 2001 for its owner, the Sikorsky Aircraft Corporation, based in the US
AERO Vodochody, supported by the Boeing Company, won a major international tender to assemble and produce parts for this type of helicopter last year. The whole program with a total value of 300 million USD is divided into three phases. In the first phase Sikorsky provided 4 helicopter structures to AERO for further installation of inner parts. In the current second phase, the final assembly and acceptance testing is done, using parts in kits. Whereas in the third phase the helicopters will be assembled from the parts that are produced by AERO Vodochody.
The helicopter no. 11 will be the first one, assembled from AERO´s in-house production parts. Its delivery is planned for December of this year.
Sikorsky contract is one of the key successes of AERO Vodochody. It did not only advanced aero structures programs at AERO, but also enlarged the scope of AERO´s work capability in the brand new field of building helicopters.
