Alenia Marconi Tests Nautis On RV Triton (Sept. 17)

Alenia Marconi Systems is working together with QinetiQ, formerly known as DERA, to demonstrate the latest generation of Nautis Command and Weapon Control systems aboard QinetiQ's unique tri-hulled RV Triton warship demonstrator, the largest powered trimaran vessel ever built.

The RV Triton is progressing through 18-month collaborative sea trials which are cosponsored by the UK MOD and the US Navy's Office of Naval Research. Earlier this year RV Triton was fitted with an advanced Alenia Marconi Systems Command and Weapon Control System (Nautis 3). A series of key demonstrations have taken place since Nautis was installed on RV Triton, this included a one week visit to Washington DC, USA were presented to many important US customers in Washington as part of its US tour.

Nautis systems are in daily use on vessels of the minehunter class and major war ships in navies around the globe. In addition to the Royal Navy, other countries, which have purchased the minehunter variant of Nautis, include Australia, Saudi Arabia, New Zealand, Spain, Japan and the United States. Nautis variants are also available for OPV's, Coastguard vessels and EEZ patrol vessels with functionality to suit a large number of roles, including surveillance, fire control and data links.

The latest and most powerful addition to the Nautis family, the Nautis 3 command and control System utilizes commercial off the shelf (COTS) hardware and operating systems with an open architecture providing easy integration of third party software applications such as digital chart kernals. At the heart of the system is AMS's Nautis Command and Control software, which controls all the combat system and platform equipment's essential to mission effectiveness, and includes functionality such as mission planning, precise navigation, and ship control.

Key factors in the success of the Nautis 3 system are its modularity, which facilitates system upgrades, and its compact design that makes installation easy. The lightweight low profile console is particularly suitable for retrofitting to existing platforms.
