Airbus Industrie And Sextant Create Joint Repair Center In Beijing
Airbus Industrie and Sextant, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Thomson-CSF, have decided to pool their skills and expertise within a jointly-run repair center in Beijing, to provide comprehensive local support for customers in China. This new support center reflects the two companies' respective development strategies in China. This is the first time that an airframe manufacturer has teamed with its avionics suppliers in providing repair capability in China. This unique concept allows the Chinese and Asian airlines to significantly reduce the time and cost associated with the repair of avionics equipment. The opening of a repair center in Beijing is a major step forward in the all-important area of product support, and reflects the commitment of both Airbus Industrie and Sextant to establishing themselves as major partners in the development of China's civil aviation sector. Through the joint venture CASC/Airbus-Customer Services Support Centre, Airbus Industrie will be responsible for the repair center operations, and also act as technical and commercial contact with various equipment manufacturers. Sextant, through its subsidiary Sextant Avionique Beijing Co. Ltd., will contribute its extensive experience in the management of repair operations, built up over many years of providing support services in Singapore, the United States and Europe. Using an ATEC Series 6 tester, the new facility will test and repair the avionics fitted to Airbus A319/A320/A321 and A330/A340 aircraft, commencing with all the Sextant equipment. Utilizing the local infrastructure already established by Airbus Industrie, including a training center for pilots, cabin and ground crews, with Thomson-CSF A330/340 and A320 simulators, a stock of spare parts, and a logistics organization, will ensure excellent support for all Chinese operators, with a fast and top-quality service. Jointly established by the China Aviation Supplies Import & Export Corporation (CASC) and Airbus Industrie, the CASC/Airbus-Customer Services Training & Support Centre near the Beijing Capital Airport is the first and most modern combined training and customer support facility in China. It is part of a US$80 million investment in China by Airbus Industrie. Sextant, the European leader and world-renowned partner in avionics and cabin electronics, is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Thomson-CSF, a world leader in professional electronics for civil and defense markets.
