Armor Holdings Subsidiary Awarded Expanded Kosovo Mine Clearance Contract

JACKSONVILLE, Fla.--- Armor Holdings, Inc., a global provider of security risk management services and a leading manufacturer of law enforcement equipment and security solutions, announced today that the Department for International Development (DFID) of the United Kingdom awarded Armor's subsidiary, Defense Systems Limited (DSL), an expanded contract for mine clearance operations in Kosovo. The new DFID contract will allow DSL to increase from two to seven the number of DFID-funded operative teams currently in place in Kosovo, and extend the length of service through November.
DSL, a subsidiary of ArmorGroup services division, has assembled teams with qualified and experienced operatives (60 in total), including a number of locally recruited personnel trained by the company. The teams conduct area surveys to detect and then destroy or make safe a wide variety of anti-personnel and anti-tank mines, traps, and unexploded weaponry.
"To date DSL has enabled over two hundred dwellings to be reoccupied safely by refugees,'' said David McDonnell, mine clearance project manager for DSL/Armor Group. "We're delighted to be able to increase our efforts over the next couple of months before the winter weather hits.''
"We are proud that the U.K. government has allowed Armor Holdings to do its part in this important initiative to provide safety for the Kosovar refugees returning to their homes,'' said Jonathan Spiller, President and Chief Executive Officer of Armor Holdings. "This contract is a wonderful example of Armor Group's diverse capabilities in sophisticated security planning and risk management. From our perspective, mine clearance is an important humanitarian activity in our worldwide portfolio of risk mitigation services.''
