ADI Mulwala has achieved a double win on the export market with the delivery of 220 tonnes of RDX to South Korea, as well as securing a second order. As part of the 155mm M107 buy-through that ADI managed on behalf of the Commonwealth, and which was won by Hanwha / Poongsan, ADI successfully negotiated some significant offset agreements.
“ADI secured a competitive win through the rigorous tendering process which benefits the Commonwealth as well as ADI,” said Darryl Page, Director Land Ordnance.
“The first order was for three different classes of the product, and, after nine months of production, 220 tonnes of RDX was shipped to South Korea.”
Another order for 234 tonnes has now been received, and production will start later this year to meet delivery in June 2007. The manufacturing task was difficult because of the large quantity in the form of three variants not produced before at Mulwala. This presented some significant challenges for the High Explosives production team within a tight schedule.
“The dedicated efforts of the H.E. team meant that the technical challenges were not only overcome, but we also delivered three weeks ahead of schedule,” said Paul Flavel, ADI’s Manufacturing Operations Manager.
The entire operation was expertly supported by ‘Purchasing’, ‘Laboratory’, ‘Quality Systems’ & ‘Logistics’, as well as final transport to Pt. Wilson by EO Services,” he said.
This win places ADI in a strong position for future orders from this export market.
