Australia Investigates Problem with New Patrol Boats

The Maritime Commander Australia, Rear Admiral Davyd Thomas, has directed an operational pause of the Royal Australian Navy’s Armidale Class Patrol Boats, following identification of a potential class safety issue with the main engine fuel system.

The cause of the problem is not yet known however investigations are currently being conducted.

Contingencies have been put in place and Navy is utilising alternate assets to meet operational tasking specifically in support of maritime border protection.

“The safety of our personnel is paramount, and prudent safety measures are being taken until the cause of the problem is determined”, said Rear Admiral Thomas.
