AAI Boresight For Eurofighter (Nov. 16)

NEW YORK---United Industrial Corporation today announced that its AAI Corporation subsidiary has been selected by the Eurofighter Industry Consortium to provide Advanced Boresight Equipment (ABE) to harmonize operational EFA 2000 Typhoon aircraft.

The contract, valued at $4.6 million, calls for the production of eight ABE systems to support Eurofighter EFA 2000 Typhoon aircraft flown by the air forces of Spain, Italy, German, and Great Britain. Delivery is scheduled to begin next year.

The contract has potential for more than 30 additional ABE systems to support expansion of EFA 2000 Typhoon air wings over the next 10 years. The Eurofighter Industry Consortium previously purchased four other ABE systems to support harmonization during Eurofighter production in each of the four consortium member countries -- Spain, Italy, Germany and Great Britain.

"We are delighted that the Eurofighter Industry Consortium has selected AAI's ABE harmonization technology to provide defense readiness and safety for the crews and flight systems of European air forces," said Richard R. Erkeneff, President and Chief Executive Officer of United Industrial. "The EFA 2000 Typhoon is one of the world's most sophisticated fighter aircraft and the award underscores the strong position ABE is building as the equipment of choice in boresighting. We look forward to this important contract as well as the opportunity to potentially expand our partnership to additional aircraft types in the years ahead."

ABE is a gyro-stabilized, electro-optical system that provides alignment accuracy of weapons and sensor systems for aircraft while reducing maintenance time and costs. Other ABE customers include the U.S. Navy, U.S. Air Force, The Boeing Company, Sikorsky, Lockheed Martin, BAE Systems and GKN Westland Helicopters Ltd.

United Industrial Corporation is a company focused on the design and production of defense, training, transportation, and energy systems. Its products include unmanned aerial vehicles, training and simulation systems, automated aircraft test and maintenance equipment, and ground transportation components. The Company also offers logistical/engineering services for government-owned equipment and manufactures combustion equipment for biomass and refuse fuels.
