Antonov Courts European MPs

On October 18, 2006 the meeting of Committee on problems of technique, aviation and space of the Assembly of Western-European Union was held.

The discussion of prospects of cooperation between Europe and Ukraine in the field of aircraft building industry became the main subject of the meeting. Parliamentarians of Great Britain, Spain, Lithuania, Portugal, France and Ukraine shared their opinion on the affair with the management of Antonov ASTC.

Alexander Shkil, people’s deputy of Ukraine, deputy chairman of the Committee on Foreign Affairs, who accompanied the delegation, said: “It is important for us to familiarize representatives of the parliaments of the European states with the potential of Ukraine in the field of aircraft building industry during this visit. Ukraine is a powerful aviation state. We have real perspectives to participate in the European projects as a competent partner. For example, in development of aircraft with big cargo capacity”.

Guests of the ASTC visited test-flight base of the enterprise, became familiarized with digital technologies implemented at Antonov ASTC, as well as with the modern and prospective programmes of Antonov. They discussed the ASTC’s initiative about joining up efforts of the European countries on realization of the Programme of efficient reaction on extraordinary situations using AN-32P.

They also marked the importance of timely completion of validation of Antonov aircraft operated in Europe to meet the requirements of the European Union countries and obtaining the EASA certificates. During the meeting a great attention was paid to development of projects in which the European countries participate: AN-140, AN-148, AN-38.

The members of the Assembly of Western-European Union highly appreciated scientific and technical potential of Antonov ASTC and resources for the further development of cooperation with Europe. Answering a question about the results of visiting the enterprise, Mr. Bill Eteringhon, a Member of Parliament of Great Britain said: “I have seen the big prospects of cooperation with Ukraine and will mark in my report that I am a supporter of such a cooperation.”
