iDEFENSE, CERT(R) Coordination Center Launch First of its KindExchange Of Cyber Threat and Vulnerability Information
ALEXANDRIA, Va.--- Infrastructure Defense, Inc. (iDEFENSE) a 21st century intelligence and risk management firm, and Carnegie Mellon's CERT Coordination Center (CERT/CC), announced today a unique pilot program focused on the exchange of critical cyber threat and vulnerability intelligence and analysis. The CERT/CC and iDEFENSE will create a groundbreaking exchange of critical information as part of the mounting effort to protect the nation's critical infrastructure. The pilot program will name iDEFENSE as an external user of the CERT/CC Knowledgebase. The CERT Knowledgebase is a world-renowned compilation of information technology vulnerabilities, attacker methods, and security incident impacts. iDEFENSE, a leader in providing private industry and government real-time threat and vulnerability information, will share its own proprietary knowledge base with the CERT/CC. "In the battle to protect critical operating systems, intelligence is key,'' said James Adams, CEO of iDEFENSE. "This relationship will harness the strengths of two organizations leading the fight against the growing number of threats to our electronic infrastructure. The combined power of the CERT/CC and iDEFENSE's expertise provide an unparalleled force in the effort to attack the mounting cyber threat.'' "Access to accurate, timely information is key to enabling organizations to protect their information infrastructures,'' said Rich Pethia, CERT/CC director. "This relationship will enhance the ability of both the CERT/CC and iDEFENSE to meet the information needs of the communities they serve.'' This relationship will benefit both the public and private sector's respective efforts to protect the critical infrastructure. iDEFENSE will learn first-hand about the latest methods of electronic attack and the necessary countermeasures by working with the CERT/CC and the Networked Systems Survivability (NSS) Program at the Software Engineering Institute (SEI). The CERT/CC will use the relationship to enhance its understanding of critical private industry systems, as well as gain industry's perspective on the growing list of threats to the critical infrastructure. The arrangement will provide a benchmark in information sharing going forward. The CERT/CC was founded in 1988 as part of the NSS Program at the SEI and has become an unparalleled repository of security information, as well as a major reporting center for incidents and vulnerabilities. iDEFENSE was founded in 1998 in response to the President's call for a private sector solution to protecting the critical infrastructure. Key iDEFENSE clients include Citigroup, Microsoft, the British Ministry of Defence, and other government agencies. Together, the two organizations will form a powerful source of information on the latest threats and vulnerabilities, as well as provide the solutions necessary to protect key systems in both the public and private sectors.
