Aviall Wins Rolls Turbine Support Contract (Dec. 18)

INDIANAPOLIS --- Rolls-Royce plc and Aviall, Inc. today announced the signing of a definitive agreement between the two organizations for worldwide aftermarket parts support of Rolls-Royce Model T56 and 501-D turboprop engines.

Effective January 2, 2002, all sales, order administration, warehousing, component repair coordination, and product and publications distribution will be conducted through Aviall from their more than 37 customer service centers located around the world.

Steve Dwyer, President of Defense North America at Rolls-Royce said: "Our goal is to provide an on-demand global distribution network capable of meeting and exceeding the expectations of T56/501-D customers by providing better product access for them. As a recognized industry leader, Aviall brings capability and expertise, which will allow us to better support the end user. In addition to being a one-stop source, customers will benefit through faster delivery and elimination of manufacturing lead times. This will enable customers to lower the number of products and quantity of each item in their inventory, leading to reductions in carrying, administrative and labor costs. The result will be a significant increase in value for Rolls-Royce customers.

"By making an Internet connection to http://www.aviall.com or by making one telephone call to 1-866-284-2558, operators and customers can obtain virtually everything necessary to maintain their engines. Confirmed orders will be delivered the very next day, or, in some instances, even the same day.

"Business relationships between T56/501-D operators and their authorized Rolls-Royce maintenance centers for repair and overhaul are unaffected by this change in aftermarket product distribution,'' Dwyer concluded.

Paul E. Fulchino, Chairman, President and CEO of Aviall added, "We are extremely pleased by the continued confidence Rolls-Royce has expressed in our ongoing partnership by once again selecting Aviall as the exclusive aftermarket provider for yet another of its major engine product lines. This agreement provides an important new area for Aviall efforts to significantly broaden the Company's product market basket; substantially deepen its involvement in the military segment; and contribute significant T56/501-D product on-site sales presence and support.

"Obviously, we can greatly benefit the T56/501-D customer by providing them with a global, one-stop source for on-demand aftermarket maintenance support. We are confident Aviall's extensive network of stocking locations, experienced sales team, Internet- based parts quoting and order-entry system, and computerized inventory control systems will all exceed customer expectations.

The T56/501-D series of engines are used in military and selected commercial aircraft applications throughout the world. This versatile powerplant is the standard engine used to power many military and defense workhorse aircraft such as C-130 Hercules, P-3 Orion, E-2 Hawkeye, and C-2 Greyhound. With a global installed base of over 8,000 units, in service in over 60 countries, the T56 engine, represents the military's most popular and widely utilized large turboprop aircraft engine.

All transition logistics will be completed by January 2, 2002, resulting in no loss of service or delays in shipping to customers worldwide.
