The Minister Assisting the Minister for Defence, Danna Vale, is attending the launch of the Navy's sixth and final HUON-class Coastal Minehunter on Saturday, 19 January. Minister Vale is representing the Minister for Defence at the launch.
The ship is to be named YARRA.
Minister Vale will present the Keynote Address at the launch.
YARRA is the last of the six HUON Class Coastal Minehunters ordered for the Royal Australian Navy. She is the fourth ship of the RAN to carry the name. The second was a sloop that was sunk in a gallant fight against overwhelming Japanese odds on 4 March, 1942. Her Captain, Lieutenant Commander Rankin, was recently commemorated when the Navy's last Collins class submarine was named after him.
