FLIR Systems Receives Additional $6.0 Million Order for Maritime Thermal Imaging System ; Supplements Initial $12.0 Million August Order

PORTLAND, Ore.---FLIR Systems Inc., a world leader in the design and manufacture of thermal imaging systems, Thursday announced the receipt of an additional MarFLIR(tm) order valued at $5.82 million.
This order supplements the initial $12.0 million order under the Naval Surface Warfare Command's contract that was established with FLIR last August. The majority of the MarFLIR units from this order are earmarked for U.S. Coast Guard patrol ships. The remaining quantity of MarFLIR systems will be used by the U.S. Navy on a variety of craft ranging from 28 to 171 feet.
While some initial shipments under the original order will be made in the fourth quarter of this year, shipments under this additional order will begin next year.
Introduced in the second quarter of 1999, MarFLIR, an inverted stabilized 9-inch gimbal forward-looking infrared system designed specifically for the maritime environment, is one of the product benefits resulting from FLIR's merger with Inframetrics, which closed in March of this year.
The MarFLIR, which can be mounted on a vessel's mast or wheelhouse and boasts full de-icing capabilities, features a 10x continuous zoom lens and high-sensitivity infrared detector, a laser range finder and an auto tracker. Additionally, the hermetically sealed gimbal meets the Navy's and Coast Guard's stringent vibration, shock and maritime environmental requirements.
"We are pleased with our customers' enthusiastic response to this exciting new product. The global maritime market represents a tremendous opportunity for us, and we're working to further expand our penetration into this market. This new order is the latest indication that demand for our products continues to be strong,'' said President and Chief Executive Officer Ken Stringer.
FLIR Systems designs, manufactures and markets infrared imaging systems worldwide for a variety of applications. FLIR's imaging products are used in such diverse applications as public safety, defense, navigation, and search and rescue. Commercial product applications include broadcast imaging, condition monitoring, non-destructive testing, research and development, and manufacturing process control.
