NORTH BAY, Canada --- The world's only firefighting aircraft in production - the new-generation amphibious Bombardier 415 - today left for the Asia-Pacific region where it will demonstrate its multipurpose capabilities to firefighters, government representatives and other major stakeholders during a 10-country tour.
The journey to Asia and back will circumnavigate the globe, covering 53,000 kilometer's over a 90-day period.
The Bombardier 415 will participate in the Asian Aerospace Air Show in Singapore from Feb. 26 to March 2 where it will showcase the Bombardier 415. While in the region, the aircraft is also scheduled to visit other prospects in the region, including Malaysia and Australia.
"We're confident this tour will demonstrate the unique capabilities of the Bombardier 415 under the region's challenging conditions," said Tom Appleton, president, Bombardier Amphibious Aircraft. "The Bombardier 415 is best known as a firefighting aircraft but today it is being developed into a very capable and proven multi-mission platform suited for a wide range of special missions inland, in mountainous terrain, as well as in coastal waters," he added
The Bombardier 415 is already used extensively in Mediterranean Europe and North America where it is the choice of firefighters controlling wildfires in the critical early moments before they rage out of control, especially in areas where access is difficult.
Bombardier continues to invest in developing new variants of the aircraft to meet the needs of current and potential customers worldwide. Fitted with specialized equipment, the Bombardier 415MP will be ideally suited for missions such as Search and Rescue, Civil Protection, Customs and Immigration Control, Fisheries and Environmental protection. Two Bombardier 415 aircraft are currently being equipped for Search and Rescue duties for a European customer and flight-testing will begin in February 2002.
