Alvis has made the following announcement this afternoon:
"The Board of Alvis plc confirms that it is in discussions with Rolls Royce plc, regarding the possible acquisition of Vickers Defence Systems. These discussions may or may not lead to a transaction.
"Any such acquisition would be financed using Alvis's own cash resources and banking facilities.
"A further announcement will be made in due course."
