Asian Aerospace 2002 Preview (Feb. 25)



SINGAPORE---Asian Aerospace 2002 promises to deliver another thrilling and rewarding experience to visitors this year, showcasing over 55 flying and static display aircraft and serving as the launch pad into Asia for many aerospace technology innovations.

Mr Jimmy Lau, Managing Director of Asian Aerospace Pte Ltd, said: We are encouraged to see the continued strong support and commitment demonstrated by our exhibitors for the show. As one of the world's top aerospace events, Asian Aerospace 2002 will be kicking off the new year for the aerospace industry, heralding new opportunities in the new century."

For the first time at Asian Aerospace, visitors will be able to get up close and personal to military aircraft such as the Hawk 100, F-15E Strike Eagle and F/A-18 E/F Super Hornet at the flying and static displays. Lockheed Martin will also be thrilling aerospace enthusiasts with a full-scale mock-up display of the stealthy, supersonic Joint Strike Fighter (JSF) to be shown for the first time in Asia.

Also making a debut at Asian Aerospace 2002 are Cessna's Citation Encore 560 and Raytheon Aircraft's Premier 1, offering senior executives and corporations a first-hand experience with these high-performance business jets.

Long-time exhibitors such as The Boeing Company and Rolls-Royce will be making a strong showing at Asian Aerospace 2002 as well.

Well represented by its various business units, the Boeing exhibit will feature the Apache Longbow, F/A-18 (with simulator), Sonic Cruiser, and the 737 Airborne Early Warning and Control System.

"We want to continue growing with the region and we believe that Asian Aerospace offers an ideal platform for Boeing to fulfil its long term business strategy as well as communicate our commitment to the region. Acknowledging the strategic value of Asian Aerospace 2002 in relation to the Asia Pacific marketplace, Rolls-Royce will be launching its Trent engine maintenance joint venture with SIA Engineering Company and Hong Kong Aero Engine Services Limited ­ Singapore Aero Engine Services Ltd (SAESL) ­ at the show.

Mr Martin Johnson, Head of Communications, Civil Aerospace, Rolls-Royce, said: "The Asia Pacific region continues to be of tremendous importance to Rolls-Royce in all the company's business sectors. This particularly applies to our civil aerospace interests where the high-thrust Trent is established as the engine of choice for the region's new generation widebody airliners. Asian Aerospace has high priority on our calendar. It is world class in terms of organisation and the show offers an ideal setting to meet many key customers."

Other industry players are leveraging Asian Aerospace 2002 as the launch pad into Asia for a wide range of aerospace technology innovations, including Gippsland Aeronautics' utility aircraft GA8 AIRVAN; Ibis Aerospace Ltd's turbo prop aircraft Ae270; Korea Aerospace Industries Ltd's basic trainer KT-1; and Talidran Communications Ltd's Rugged Personal Digital Assistant (RPDA).

To be held at the Changi Exhibition Centre from 26 February to 3 March 2002, Asian Aerospace 2002 has attracted close to 900 exhibitors from 37 countries and is expecting a visitorship turnout of 22,000.
