Raytheon Bundles $16 Million Foreign Military Sales Award With Direct Commercial Sales for Maverick Missiles
TUCSON, Ariz.---Raytheon Company has received a $16 million contract to provide Maverick missiles, trainers and spares to Canada, Bahrain, Italy and Turkey through the foreign military sales (FMS) program.
Raytheon Systems Company will provide 58 AGM-65G/F (tactical), 20 TGM-65G (trainers), as well as 13 spare guidance units to the four countries. In order to yield the best price, the FMS effort was bundled with five separate direct commercial sales contracts for 98 tactical missiles, 20 trainers and 11 spare guidance units.
The AGM-65 Maverick is a joint Air Force, Navy and Marine Corps precision-guided missile used for close air support and interdiction. It is also used by 27 nations.
Work under this contract is expected to be complete by mid-2001. All work will be performed at Raytheon facilities in Tucson, Ariz., Santa Barbara Calif., Farmington, N.M., Andover Mass., Austin, Texas and Midland Ontario Canada. A total of 200 guidance units will be manufactured in Raytheon's new multi-missile factory in Tucson.
In addition, a portion of this effort will be accomplished with U.S. Air Force hardware via a unique exchange program. A credit will be paid to the U.S. Air Force for use of the hardware currently stored in Raytheon facilities. This approach ensures stable missile prices at much lower quantities than could otherwise be achieved. The Air Force will use the credits to fund an upgrade of their TV Mavericks yielding the AGM-65K variant.
