Lancer Team Awarded Contract for Future Scout Program (Feb. 1)



SANTA CLARA, Calif. -- The LANCER team has been awarded a USD147 million contract for the Advanced Technology Demonstration (ATD) phase of the Future Scout and Cavalry Program. The LANCER team is led by Marconi Electronic Systems Land and Naval Systems and includes United Defense LP, Raytheon Systems Company, and Alvis Vehicles Ltd. The program will develop the future system for manned ground reconnaissance.
The ATD phase is scheduled to last for 42 months. The objective is to define a system that will present a low level of risk in meeting requirements for proceeding to the next phase of development. LANCER's approach will include trade-off analyses, computer modeling and simulation, a systems integration laboratory, a virtual objective system, and an integrated demonstrator.
This program is a joint effort of the UK and the USA and is the first major collaboration on combat vehicle systems between the two parties. The total program has an estimated value of USD6.5 billion. The final product, known as TRACER in the UK and FSCS (Future Scout and Cavalry System in the USA, will provide military forces with modern capabilities of manned, armored reconnaissance featuring state-of-the-art sensor suites integrated with technologies for stealth, mobility, reliability, communication into the digitized battlefield, and survivability.
