Celsius Wins PD Contract From the UK

Bofors Carl Gustaf AB, a part of Celsius AB, has received one of two project definition contracts from the UK, Ministry of Defence/DPA, for the Next Generation Light Anti-Armour Weapon (NLAW).

NLAW is a man-portable, shoulder-launched, short range, light anti-armour weapon effective against modern armoured vehicles.

The Bofors solution to the NLAW requirement is the MBT LAW system.

The project definition phase will last around 22 months during which the company will develop a proposal for the full development and production phase. The contract includes also development work and demonstration of the MBT LAW solution.

A single contract for the full development and production is expected to be awarded by UK Ministry of Defence in 2002.

The total value for the NLAW project is in excess of GBP 300 M and the weapon is expected to enter service around 2006.
