Year 2000 Wire/Cubic Defense Systems Selected as Preferred Tenderer for USD65 Million Australian Air Combat Training Systems
SAN DIEGO---Cubic Defense Systems Inc., a subsidiary of San Diego-based Cubic Corp. has been selected as the preferred tenderer to provide a new USD65 million air combat training system (ACTS) for the Australian Defence Forces, it was announced by John Moore, Australian minister of defence. In a press release, the Australian Department of Defence said that subject to further study and consideration of ACTS capability, the Department expects to enter into contract negotiations with Cubic later this year. Cubic officials said the ACTS project will lead to significant business expansion. ACTS will provide aircrews with realistic air combat training in a variety of simulated electronic warfare (EW) scenarios, including a wide range of air and ground-based threats. ACTS, which integrates EW and air combat simulations, is a new generation of the air combat training systems pioneered and developed by Cubic Defense Systems. ACTS will be the fifth Global Positioning System-based air combat training system fielded by Cubic. Other systems include the GPS upgrade to the Tyndall Air Force Base, Florida Air Combat Maneuvering Instrumentation (ACMI); the expansion and replacement of the U.S. Air Force Red Flag Measurement and Debriefing System (RFMDS) with the Nellis Air Combat Training System (NACTS); Michigan Air National Guard Combat Readiness Training Center at Alpena, Mich.; and the Kadena Instrumented Training System at Kadena Air Base, Okinawa. British Aerospace Australia and Georgia Tech Research Institute are major subcontractors to Cubic Defense Systems for this study.
