AMS has been awarded a contract valued at £20M by the BAE Systems Type 45 Prime Contract Office for the supply of the Electro-Optical Gunfire Control System (EOGCS) for the initial batch of the Royal Navy's new Type 45 AAW Destroyer. The contract is for the supply of systems for the first six of a planned class of up to 12 ships.
AMS has chosen Radamec Defence Systems as its partner for this important programme, building upon previous successes, such as the provision of naval equipment in Korea, Finland, India and Malaysia.
The experience gained has enabled the partnership to provide the UK Royal Navy with a system that will satisfy the demanding performance requirements of operating throughout the world and specifically in its role of providing support to land forces in the littoral environment. The system provides effective optical and infra-red surveillance capability for the broad range of environmental operational conditions required.
AMS offers command and control systems based on a distributed system architecture that enables a plug and play approach to the control and monitoring of a wide range of sensors, predictors, and guns. This architecture readily lends itself to the adoption of multiple sensor and weapon combinations capable of automatic or manual switching by the ship' warfare team. (ends)
