SUPACAT NEWS Since DSA 2000, Alvis is pleased to report that Supacat Mark III All-Terrain Mobile Platform (ATMP) vehicles have been ordered and delivered to the Far East, for airborne drop zone clearance deployment. A second order is currently in production in the UK for the same Far Eastern customer. Supacat is displayed on the Alvis Vehicles industrial partner, Deftech Sdn Bhd stand no X01 at DSA 2002.
Supacat is a fully automatic 6x6, airportable and amphibious ATMP multi-role vehicle. It has unrivalled all-terrain capability and, with a 1.6 tonne payload, can be used as a weapons platform or logistics vehicle. Supacat can be used with its specially designed, self-loading trailer to extend its payload by up to three times, without compromising its performance. Up to eight vehicles can be airlifted in a C130 transport or two fully laden vehicles with laden trailers underslung from a Chinook helicopter.
Bv206 The Hägglunds Bv206 fleet has been in service successfully with the Malaysian Army since 1993. Since then, they have been continuously supported and towards the end of 2001 a new, long-term support contract was signed. These Bv206 vehicles are used extensively across the user's units which include in-country armour and signals.
SCARAB 4X4 As a natural replacement for the renowned Ferret armoured scout car, the Alvis Scarab has been successfully developed by Alvis Vehicles Ltd. In the early 1990's, Alvis co-operated with MMC Defence Sdn Bhd Malaysia on the dieselisation of the complete fleet of the Malaysian Army's Ferret vehicles.
Scarab is 4x4 high mobility, armoured, scout and liaison vehicle. Based on the latest Mercedes Unimog engine and running gear, with an Allison automatic transmission, Scarab has superb motility and reliability. Scarab's protection exceeds that of any other vehicle of its type. With a weight range of between 7 and 11 tonnes, it may be armoured against heavy machine gun over the frontal arc, whilst retaining 7.62mm AP protection all-round. Mine protection has been built in from the start, including self-forging fragment tank-killer mines such as the TMRP-6.
Following rigorous performance and reliability tests in Belgium last year, Alvis Scarab is currently undergoing trials by the UK MoD for the British Army's Future Command and Liaison Vehicle (FCLV) programme.
