AMS is a multi-national electronic systems company specialising in the design, manufacture and supply of radar and mission critical command, control and management systems to defence forces and air traffic management authorities throughout the world.
AMS is a joint venture company owned equally by Finmeccanica of Italy and BAE Systems of the UK. It employs 7,600 people, has a turnover in excess of ¤1.2bn with a healthy order book of ¤4bn which underpins its ambitious growth plans for the next four years. AMS has an established customer base in over 100 countries.
The shareholder agreement completed on 18th December 2001 saw the transfer of AMS's missile activities into the newly created missiles company, MBDA and the transfer into AMS of more land and naval radar and command and control capability from BAE Systems Combat and Radar Systems Ltd. The end of 2001 also saw AMS acquire Airport Systems International in the United States, and Gematronik in Germany. These changes resulted in the strengthening of AMS as it focuses on its core capability of radars and mission critical command and management systems for use by defence forces and air traffic management authorities throughout the world.
The AMS Holdings company holds 50% of the shares in MBDA, and AMS continues to work with the new missiles company on existing joint projects and on joint developments for the future.
AMS is always making sure that its customers have the ability to see, to think and to act with intelligence across land, sea and air.
