Following the successful upgrading of the British and Oman armies' Combat Vehicle Reconnaissance (Tracked) (CVR(T)) fleets, Jordan has now selected Alvis dieselation upgrade kits for the first batch of its own CVR(T) vehicles.
Additionally, two Malaysian Army vehicles: a Scorpion and a Stormer have been upgraded and successfully trialled in cooperation with the Malaysian Army and MMC Defence Sdn Bhd, the Alvis Vehicles industrial partner. This industrial partnership has been developed over many years, and in the early 1990s successfully automotively upgraded the Ferret vehicle fleet of the Malaysian Army in the MMC Engineering facilities at Nilai, Malaysia. An upgraded Stormer Command vehicles is being displayed on MMC Defence Sdn Bhd stand no L91 at DSA 2002.
As well as the major increase in reliability, the diesel conversion provides improved vehicle performance, removal of the safety hazard posed by petrol fuel, and ensures that CVR(T) can remain in effective service for many more years. The diesel conversion is based on the well proven Cummins B series 5.9 litre engine and is the only diesel conversion approved by the UK MoD for CVR(T) vehicles.
Alvis anticipates that a number of further CVR(T) users worldwide will follow these countries in adopting the proven Cummins B series solution.
