AMS is pleased to announce it has signed a contract with guided weapons group MBDA to supply Blindfire tracking and weapon control radars and Dagger surveillance radars for the JERNAS Short-Range Air Defence (SHORAD) missile system ordered by the Royal Malaysian Army.
The Malaysian Ministry of Defence announced its intention to proceed with the purchase of the JERNAS area air defence system at the Defence Services Asia exhibition in Kuala Lumpur on 10 April. JERNAS is the only land-based air defence system designed to defeat the most severe threats, including cruise missiles and smart munitions.
The AMS Blindfire weapon control radar provides JERNAS with an all-weather day and night capability. Fast acquisition and extremely accurate tracking of the target and the missile in flight give the air defence system unique dual engagement capability. With pencil beamwidth, high power, adaptive wide-band frequency agility, very low side lobes and smart digital processing, the radar is immune to all forms of jamming.
The AMS Dagger surveillance radar provides JERNAS with an early warning detection and target gathering capability. With narrow beamwidth, frequency agility and minimal sidelobes, the radar is immune to all forms of jamming and includes advanced techniques to counter modern sophisticated defence suppression threats.
The contract brings together the combined capabilities of the new AMS organisation following its acquisition of the former BAE Systems CaRS business.
Roger Mathias, Managing Director of Radar Systems Division, said: "We are extremely proud to supply the Blindfire and Dagger radars equipping the Jernas system, which is so effective for protecting vital assets in adverse conditions."
