Alenia, Aerostar Sign MoU on Aerospace Collaboration
Alenia Aeronautica, a Finmeccanica company and AEROSTAR S.A. have signed today in Bucharest a Memorandum of Agreement to establish a long-lasting constructive business cooperation on various aerospace industrial and engineering activities.
Alenia and AEROSTAR will collaborate for the Eurofighter Typhoon programme, if the aircraft will be chosen by the Romanian Air Force, but the MoA also opens the doors to Aerostar for Finmeccanica aerospace activities and it will pave the way to a partnership that could be extended to other civil and military programmes.
This Eurofighter Typhoon project represents an outstanding opportunity for Aerostar to join the largest European defence programme with an economic impact in the four partner countries - Italy, Germany, United Kingdom and Spain - of well over 40 billion euros, and that involves more than 400 companies in Europe and 100.000 workforce.
The Eurofighter Typhoon is the best multirole aircraft available on the market today; the most important European defence collaboration programme with more than 100.000 people working on that and the most important European high-technology programme.
With 707 aircraft under contract, the Eurofighter Typhoon is the best selling aircraft of its category and the only swing-role capable aircraft available on the market.
The Typhoon is the most cost-effective new-generation multirole aircraft both in terms of acquisition cost and in terms of life-cicle cost when compared to performances. No other comparable combat aircraft costs like the Typhoon.
Aerostar S.A. capabilities will be fundamental also for their contribution to meeting the offset requirement envisaged for the new fighter for the Romanian Air Force tender.
Aerostar S.A. is a leading Romanian aerospace and defence company which executes the maintenance of the present fleet of fighter aircraft and aeroengines for RoAF.
Alenia Aeronautica, a Finmeccanica Company, is the largest Italian aeronautic player which operates worldwide in the commercial and military aviation, unmanned aerial vehicles and aerostructures. Alenia Aeronautica also coordinates the activities of Alenia Aermacchi and Alenia Aeronavali - wholly owned companies – respectively active in the design and manufacturing of military trainer aircraft and in the overhaul, maintenance and modification of military and civil aircraft. With its joint ventures ATR and SuperJet International, Alenia Aeronautica is the world leader in the regional turboprop market and a top player in the regional jet sector. Over 2007 Alenia Aeronautica reported revenues of 2,306 millions Euro, backlog for 8,248 millions Euro and orders for 3,104. The total workforce is 13.301.
