Army Orders ITT RF Countermeasures (May 10)

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. --- ITT Industries, Inc. Avionics Division has been awarded a contract by the U.S. Army Special Operations Command to equip Special Operations aircraft with its electronic protection system, the AN/ALQ-211 Suite of Integrated RF Countermeasures (SIRFC). The system protects aircraft from radar-guided missiles. Under the $45 million contract, ITT Industries will provide initial SIRFC production systems for installation on several types of aircraft. Additionally, ITT Industries will serve as the systems integration lead for the overall survivability equipment to be installed.

SIRFC will provide Army Special Operations Aircraft with highly accurate radar warning and state-of-the-art countermeasures capabilities. Based on its open architecture and modular building block design, SIRFC provides an array of capabilities to a number of aircraft. SIRFC offers either stand-alone or integrated capabilities in the areas of sensor fusion, situation awareness, radar warning, electronic countermeasures and electronic support measures based on the host platform's mission requirements.

In addition to the Army Special Operations Aircraft, SIRFC will be deployed on the U.S. Air Force's Special Operations CV-22 and the U.S. Army's Objective Force RAH-66 Comanche and the AH-64D Apache Longbow. A SIRFC-based aircraft survivability suite has also been selected by the Royal Norwegian Air Force for Norway's NH-90 Antisubmarine helicopter.
