Arrius 2B2 Turboshaft Passes Milestone (May 15)

BORDES, France---The Arrius 2B2 engine has passed the 150-hour endurance test on the test bed. This is the most important test for preparing the engine's certification, since it validates the limitations of the engine.

After this success, the Arrius 2B2 should receive certification in the EC 135 within the specified deadline, July 2002. It will be delivered in accordance with Eurocopter's production schedule from July 2002.

Moreover, the engine passed the certification test on the engine time between overhauls (TBO) at 3500 hours. During this test, three contingency rating operations (30 seconds/2 minutes) were carried out in the middle of the test and three others at the end, demonstrating the ability of the engine to use these contingency ratings without engine maintenance. This is unique on the market.

The Arrius 2B2 is the most efficient member of the Arrius family. It provides superior mechanical and thermal power, which should allow a take-off weight of 2835 kg in category A at higher temperatures and altitudes.

To date, more than 1100 engines from the Arrius family have been delivered.

Turbomeca is the leading helicopter engine manufacturer, and has produced 48 000 turbines since the origin of the company. With more than 2000 customers over 140 countries, Turbomeca provides a proximity service thanks to 11 subsidiaries, 30 service centers, 25 repair centers and 70 Field representatives and Field mechanics. The head office is based in Bordes (Pyrénées-Atlantiques, France).

The company Turbomeca is part of the Snecma Group, the aerospace propulsion and equipment group. Microturbo, a subsidiary of Turbomeca, is the European leader of turbojet engines for missiles, drones and auxiliary power units.
