Russian means of airspace control detected an air targets approaching the State border of the Russian Federation over the neutral waters of the Baltic Sea. This was reported by the National Centre for State Defence Control.
To identify air targets and prevent violation of the State Border of the Russian Federation, a Su-30SM fighter from the air defence forces of the Southern Military District was raised into the air.
The crew of the Russian fighter jet approached a safe distance to the aerial targets and identified them as the French Navy Atlantic 2 reconnaissance aircraft and the British Air Force R.1 Sentinel.
After the reconnaissance plane flew away from the state border of the Russian Federation, the Russian fighter jet returned safely to its home airfield.
The entire flight of the Russian fighter jet took place strictly in accordance with international rules for the use of airspace.
Violations of the State Border of the Russian Federation by French and British aircraft were not registered.
