This week, forces from the Air Force's air defense battalion in Ørland will be stationed in and around the capital. As part of exercise Joint Viking, the force will practice protecting the airspace over Oslo.

The air defense battalion will be visible in several parts of the capital. The force practicing in Oslo will be set up with, among other things, four NASAMS launch pads and radars, and will consist of approximately 40 vehicles and 140 employees and conscripts.

"The public need not worry. This is part of our exercise activities, and there is no known threat to either Norway or Oslo that would cause us to train with this type of forces here now," says the head of the Air Force, Major General Rolf Folland.

The exercise involves planning, leading and carrying out air defense operations in the capital. Seen in light of the war in Ukraine, it is extra important to train to protect population centers and critical civilian infrastructure.

The air defense battalion is usually based at Ørland air station outside Trondheim. They are scheduled to be in Oslo and the surrounding area from Tuesday to Saturday.

There will be military guards at all field positions. We remind you of the ban on the use of drones.

F-35 fighter jets will also be able to be seen and heard over the capital for short periods, Wednesday to Friday. These participate in the exercise. The combat aircraft will fly well within the regulations for flying over densely built-up areas.
