Today, at the IDET trade fair in Brno, the Army ceremonially took over the new TITUS armored vehicle. A total of 62 vehicles are produced in the Czech Republic and the soldiers will take them over by the end of 2024.

The symbolic key to the wheeled armored vehicle (KOVS TITUS 6x6) was received by the Deputy Minister of Defense Daniel Blažkovec and the Chief of the General Staff of the ACR, Lieutenant General Karel Řehka, in the presence of Generals Petr Milčický, director of the section of MoD forces development and Petr Šnajdárek, director of the MoD communication and information systems section.

According to Brigadier General Petr Šnajdárek, the modular, multi-purpose armored vehicle represents a significant shift in the digitization of the contemporary battlefield. “TITUS is able to receive and transmit information from combat units to the command post in minutes and literally to the opposite end of the globe. The Army has never had anything like that at its disposal.”

The contract for 62 Titus (Tactical Infantry Transport and Utility System) was signed in 2019. Forty-two pieces are in the command-staff and liaison version, 20 vehicles will be used as a fire support coordination point. The majority will go to liaison units of the 4th and 7th Brigade Task Forces, where they will replace the obsolete R-5, R-6 and R-7 radio vehicles. According to General Petr Milčický, Titus will ensure communication and information support and interoperability of the command and control system at the brigade and battalion level in accordance with NATO standards.

"By being able to transmit information (image and sound) faster and in larger volumes, this area will be completely strengthened. In addition, communication with allies on the common battlefield will be significantly simplified," confirmed Milčický.

The TITUS vehicle on the unique TATRA chassis is characterized by a high level of modularity. It can be deployed in a variety of roles and configurations that different types of troops require – from infantry transport to combat support and combat security functions, or from peacekeeping operations to counter-terrorist interventions.

"It can be so-called equipped and supplemented with various elements - from protective jammers and detectors, through the Nexter Nerva LG Robot system for unmanned operation, systems for day, night and perimeter vision, BMS fire control systems, protection against the effects of weapons of mass destruction and various weapons, including 7.62mm and 12.7mm machine guns, 40mm grenade launchers or 20mm cannon.

"TITUS is not only a top-of-the-line liaison vehicle and a point of fire coordination, but it can also defend itself very effectively on the battlefield," explains Petr Šnajdárek.

The vehicle in all versions has level 3 ballistic protection according to the NATO STANAG methodology. Thanks to the unique chassis, it will pass through almost any terrain. It can handle a gradient of 60%, a lateral tilt of 30% and can develop a speed of 110 km/h. The tires are equipped with a central +inflating system and run-in inserts in the event of a puncture or puncture. The vehicle has a range of 700 kilometers.

According to General Petr Šnajdárek, technologies will play an increasingly fundamental role in the future, and it is important that we continue to remain at the imaginary top of the pyramid.
