COPENHAGEN --- The government and a broad majority of the parties in the Folketing agree to give the Ukraine Foundation an extra boost of DKK 2.3 billion in 2023 and 23.5 billion DKK in 2025-2027.

Denmark must continue to take the lead in supporting Ukraine and contribute significantly to Ukraine's defense struggle. Therefore, the government, SF, the Danish Democrats, the Liberal Alliance, the Conservative People's Party, the Radical Liberal Party, the Danish People's Party and New Citizens have agreed to increase the military support for Ukraine in the Ukraine Fund by DKK 2.3 billion in 2023 (at 2023 price and wage levels) and a total of DKK 23.5 billion in 2025-2027 (at 2024 prices).

"We do not know how long the war in Ukraine will continue, but we know that donations are essential for Ukraine to continue the fight against Russia. Throughout the war, Denmark has been a faithful supporter of Ukraine, and when we now strengthen our support, both in 2023 and especially by also allocating significant funds in 2025-2027, we are sending a clear signal that the Ukrainians in the long term can count on Danish support," says Defense Minister Troels Lund Poulsen.

The parties to the agreement agree to increase the framework for military support in Ukraine by DKK 2.3 billion in 2023 (2023-pl), DKK 10.95 billion in 2025, DKK 7.4 billion in 2026 and DKK 5.6 billion in 2027 (2024-pl). Thus, a total of DKK 60.4 billion has been set aside in the Ukraine Fund's framework for military support in 2023-2028 (2024-pl).

Based on previous agreements, funds for defense and security equivalent to two percent of GDP have been set aside for defense and security in 2023 and 2024.

The government will also make the financial framework in the defense settlement bigger with a boost of DKK 4.9 billion in the period 2024-2033 (2024-pl).

With the extra investments in the Ukraine fund and in the defense settlement, funds are set aside for Denmark to meet the NATO target of spending a minimum of two percent of GDP on defense expenditure from 2025 onwards.

"With such a significant increase in the Ukraine Fund, we are sending a clear signal to Ukraine that we stand behind them and their fight for freedom in the long run. From the start of the war, Denmark has been one of the most active donor countries, and with further support we can maintain that support. It is crucial for Ukraine's freedom and our common security," says the Social Democratic Party's defense spokesman, Simon Kollerup.

"The moderators are happy that Denmark is one of the countries that supports Ukraine the most, compared to our size. We will continuously be instrumental in supporting the freedom struggle in Ukraine, as long as it is necessary," says the Moderates' defense spokesman, Peter Have.

"There is war in Europe, and therefore we in the Danish Democrats are happy to be part of the agreement, which ensures that Denmark and our allies send a clear signal to Russia that we maintain our military support for Ukraine's freedom struggle," says The Danish Democrats' defense spokesperson, Lise Bech.

"We fully support the continued strong Danish commitment to support Ukraine's fight against the brutal Russian attack and are pleased that more and more Danish companies have technology and solutions that can be used," says Radikale Venstre's defense spokesman, Christians Friis Bach.
