PARIS --- On May 17, 2023, the DGA received and delivered the 10th Phénix A330 Multi role tanker transport (MRTT) aircraft to the Air and Space Force.

The DGA was able to carry out this acceptance following the various verification operations it has carried out since the beginning of April. These tests took place in Spain, in Getafe, where the A330 civil aircraft produced by Airbus in Toulouse are transformed into MRTTs, then in France, in Istres, where the MRTTs are tested at DGA Flight Tests.

The A330-MRTT Phénix is a multipurpose aircraft derived from the Airbus A330 airliner. The extent of its capabilities allows it to replace several distinct older-generation aircraft: the C135-FR and KC135-RG for in-flight refueling, and the A310 and A340 for the strategic transport of personnel and freight.

The Phénix is designed to respond to the various missions entrusted to the Air and Space Force: implementation of the air component of nuclear deterrence, contribution to the permanent air security posture, strategic projection of forces and power, emergency medical transport.

Twelve A330-MRTT Phénix will have been delivered to the Air and Space Force by the end of 2023.
