Colombia to Purchase 24 New Planes in Anti-Drug, Anti-Terror Effort
(Source: Voice of America news; issued June 30, 2004)
Colombia has announced it plans to buy 24 new planes to help in the fight against drug trafficking, rebels and paramilitaries.

The government says it wants to purchase the turboprop planes to replace its aging fleet of A-37 and OV-10 planes. The defense ministry says those planes, in use for about 35 years, are putting Colombia's security at risk.

Colombia says it is seeking vendors for the new planes, and plans to spend $234 million to buy the aircraft.
