First Indigenous Telecommunication Satellite of Turkey TÜRKSAT 6A Will Be Manufactured in TAI

The project contract regarding to development and manufacturing of "TÜRKSAT 6A National Telecommunication Satellite" has been signed in an official ceremony with honoring President of Turkish Republic Mr. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan contribution in Gebze / Kocaeli on December 15, 2014.

The satellite program, that will be fulfilling the requirements of Turkish Satellite Operator Company TÜRKSAT, will be coordinated by the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TÜBİTAK).

The financial budget for the program has been granted by Ministry of Transportation, Communication and Maritime Affair, TÜRKSAT and TÜBİTAK under TÜBİTAK – Public Research Support Group (KAMAG in Turkish acronym) 1007 regulations. All the preparation phase of the project has been completed with intensive and devoted efforts only in one year.

TÜRKSAT 6A as the first indigenous telecommunication satellite of Turkey, has planned to be developed in cooperation with: TÜBİTAK Space, TAI, ASELSAN and CTECH with a work-share model based on supplementary competencies of the sides.

With TURKSAT 6A, it is planned to convey know-how and expertise acquired from indigenous earth observation satellite projects to communication satellites. Within this scope, design and manufacturing work packages according to Satellite Structural, Thermal Control, Chemical Propulsion Subsystems, Harness and Mechanical Ground Support Equipment will be under TAI's responsibility.

Additionally, TAI will co-develop Satellite On-Board Data Handling Software, Command & Control Software and Assembly, Integration and Test activities with TÜBİTAK Space.

The assembly, integration and test activities of TÜRKSAT 6A Satellite will be performed at the TAI's Facilities – Assembly, Integration and Test Center in Ankara.

Indigenous EO Satellite Göktürk-2 Completed Its Second Year in Space

As of December 18th 2014, Turkey’s First High Resolution Remote Sensing Satellite GÖKTÜRK-2 completed its second year in space with success.

GÖKTÜRK-2 was indigenously designed by TAI - Turkish Aerospace Industries, Inc. and TÜBİTAK Space cooperation in between 2007 and 2012. The spacecraft flight model has been integrated and tested at TAI's AIT Facilities in Akıncı / Ankara and the satellite launched from Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center, China with a LM-2D Launcher.

After an official ceremony on December 18th 2012 with honouring President of Turkish Republic Mr. Recep Tayyip ERDOĞAN, Parliament Speaker Mr. Cemil ÇİÇEK and Turkish Armed Forces Chief of Staff General Necdet ÖZEL’s contribution, GÖKTÜRK-2 started its space operations in low earth orbit.

In two years, the satellite recorded more than 10.000 passes with nearly 5000 images and covered 9.850.000 km2 ground surface.

Since its launch till today, GÖKTÜRK-2 keeps serving with its existence and successful operation on 684 km altitude under the control of Turkish Air Forces.

By GÖKTÜRK-2 and other conducted space projects TAI - Turkish Aerospace Industries, Inc. is serving its capabilities and infrastructure for further national space programs with an intensively expanding potential.
